Officers reported they were contacted by a individual who found a automobile in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.

Police then located many other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably human blood.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.

Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

A senior representative stated the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.

"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
